Party Supplies: What to keep and Why

If you haven’t heard the big personal news - we are moving! The market is so hot right now we couldn't miss out on the opportunity to go ahead and sell our starter brick rambler on Pine Street. We always knew this time would come and with our 3 kiddos growing more and more, space and functionality in this place is slim. We are gearing up towards an open house in a couple of weeks and then we will be fully moving out to live with my in-laws until the house sells.

Needless to say, I am a total control freak when it comes to the presentation of my home. And despite how organized I thought we were, the last couple of weeks have been a huge eye opener for me. Some things I was very good about, like clothes, the kids stuff and kitchenware. Not a lot to sift through - patted myself on the back.

But.... my name is Stephanie and I am addicted to party supplies.

You guys, when I started going through our laundry room (which is where I have thrown all my leftover party and holiday supplies), I almost threw in the towel. Not to mention we have an entire walk in-closet filled with Christmas and Halloween decor. I literally have skeletons in my closets.

But let me get to the point, I had to sift through all of this stuff and decide what to keep or throw out. And since I am in the party business, I thought it would be a good blog post to share…

Party Supplies I Kept

This is the stuff that you should have easy access to at all times for impromptu guests or if you forget to buy something for a party. That is why I typically never throw these few items away…

  • Disposable plates of any size

  • Disposable napkins

  • Plastic cups

  • Platters

  • Clean or unused Table Cloths

  • Unused Party Favor Supplies

Generally if any of these items are super themed out (like Christmas or Halloween), I will save them for the following year and put them out at the beginning of the season to be used first for everyday coffee, snacks, dessert. etc. Then if I am throwing a party, I will usually buy new stuff for the new theme. It’s fun to see the previous years party ware and reminisce about past gatherings. I also mention party favors because they can be combined and reused as spur the moment gifts.

Before we go to the next section, let me say that because I am an event planner, I had LOADS of all of these items. I am not suggesting that you should be wasteful and just throw things away willy nilly. If you only have a few of these things that you want to keep, you should! But if you feel overwhelmed with the amount of stuff you have (like I did), these are my suggestions for what to toss away.

Party Supplies to Toss

* Disposable Utensils

* Tongs and Serving Utensils

* Stained Table Cloths

* Jars and Bottles

* Old/Used Printables

All of these items I am very guilty of hoarding and thinking of a way I may use them in the future. Truth is, I probably did re-use some of these things but not enough to continue to store them.

I hope this was a helpful post for anyone who may also be a party supplies hoarder. You can also check out my Instagram for more organization tips as we transition out of our first home and into a new one.

Cheers!
