Virtual Mother’s Day ideas
With Mother’s Day right around the corner, and things still on lock-down, I have come up with a few virtual ways to celebrate with your “moms”. I say “moms” because I mean any mother figures you would want to include. Some of these ideas do require purchases but some don’t. Either way there are still some really fun ways to wish your moms a Happy Mother’s Day, even if you can’t see them.
Coffee Date
Make a pact with your moms to wake up super early and have coffee over Zoom (before anyone else in the house wakes up). Bonus points if you can both get up before the sunrise and “watch it together”. We may not physically be together but looking at the same sunrise can make us feel closer.
Mom Mimosa Hour
Decide on a mutual late morning time and invite all your mom friends, their moms, and your moms to toast on Zoom for Mother’s Day. Make sure to notify everyone that they are supposed to have a mimosa (or drink of choice). It can be short and sweet, or people can stay on the call longer to chat.
Splurge on Lunch
There are so many restaurants and caterers with special delivery menus right now. Treat you and your moms to a catered lunch delivered right to their door! Check out your local caterers for specialty menus. I work with La Prima Catering and Catering by Seasons here in Maryland and absolutely love their food and menus.
Spa Date
Send your moms a Spa gift package or round up things that you both already have in your home. Decide on a mutual time on Mother’s Day to Zoom and pamper yourselves. You can sip a cocktail while soaking your feet in warm water or paint your nails together.
Watch a Movie Together
This may require a little more pre-planning, but there are apps that allow you to watch movies with other people (in real time) virtually. Pick out a favorite movie that you both love or a fun chick flick you haven’t seen. Download one of the apps, pop some popcorn, and watch a movie together!
Wine and a Slideshow
Create a sweet slide show on Power Point with pictures from over the years. Zoom your moms and pull up the slide show as a surprise. You can all watch it together over Zoom and Wine.
Go to the “Theatre”
Get your kids in on creating a play for you and the moms. If you don’t have kids, consider doing this yourself (after a few glasses of wine). The play can be a 5-minute skit about something funny from the past. Everyone plays a certain grandparent as their character and reenacts the scene. Zoom the moms and boom – live virtual theatre!
PJ and Ice Cream Party
Ask all your moms to make sure to pick up or order a pint of ice cream on their next grocery list. Create an online invitation inviting moms to a late-night Zoom PJs party at the end of Mother’s Day. Eat ice cream in your PJS and end your Quarantine Mother’s Day with mama chats.
You never know – one of these different ideas may become an annual tradition as your family grows. It gets harder to see all of your family and friends and do all of the things you may want to do. Virtual celebrations have become so popular during this time, but I see them lasting much longer into the future as a way to keep in better touch.
If you are interested in hosting your own virtual party for Mother’s Day but have no idea where to start, check out my Create Over Coffee service. I create a detailed event plan for you, taking all the guesswork out, and have added a new option where I setup the virtual party for you as well. Helping people celebrate more is my favorite thing to do, and no one deserves that more than mothers!
Cheers!
