“You’re Killin’ Me Smalls!”

A “Sandlot” Themed Drive-By 4th Birthday Party for a Baseball Loving Little Boy!

The Party:

Who: Jameson turned 4 on October 1st! He is super into baseball this year and loves the movie, “The Sandlot”.

What: So, we wanted to throw him a vintage Sandlot inspired birthday party. But because of COVID and social distancing, we decided to try a new trending theme – A Drive By Party.

Where: The party took place in our front yard where we setup a booth to display cupcakes and favors. Guests were encouraged to make signs and cheer for Jameson as they drove (or biked) by.

When: The party took place on a beautiful early October Saturday, between 2pm-4pm. This window was when guests could drive by and catch us outside, visit for a little, drop off a gift, watch Jameson hit a home-run and receive their goodies to take home.

Design Notes:

The best part about The Sandlot movie is the feeling you get reminiscing about the simple days of being a young kid. This drive-by party was designed to evoke that feeling.

A home-made wooden oak booth was created to mimic a side-of-the-road kids concession stand.

To tie in The Sandlot theme, the booth displayed Baseball Cupcakes and Concession Bags filled with Baseball memorabilia as favors.

To bring in even more youthful elements, a balloon arch was custom made for the booth. The classic Americana colors of Red, White, and Blue representing baseball and summertime were chosen as the color scheme in vintage tints.

A classic burlap banner, custom baseball themed signage, and a Sandlot Theme Party Décor Kit were all used to style the booth. Plus various vintage coke crates and signs were added for extra ambiance.

The Little Details:

Steph’s favorite little details from this party include…

  • The clear cupcake boxes that @mapleplacebakery and I put together so that the baseball cupcakes would resemble a baseball fresh out of the box!

  • The amazing Sandlot character faces from the Sandlot Party Kit. People had SO much fun jumping out of their cars to take a quick photo.

  •  The secret “S’more” cupcake flavor – a chocolate cupcake filled with graham cracker and chocolate ganache, topped with a marshmallow butter cream.
